Filtration, explained without the marketing

General filtration information

Everything in this section describes how domestic drinking-water filtration generally works. It is not a description of EcoVeya product performance — our own system is in development and untested.

What a tap-mounted filter does

A tap-mounted filter sits between your existing spout and the water leaving it. Water passes through a cartridge before it reaches your glass.

Cartridges of this type commonly use activated carbon, a porous material that water passes through and that is widely associated with taste and odour in household drinking water. How any individual product performs depends on that product's design and on testing.

Other approaches you will see

Jug filters do the same job in a container rather than at the tap. Under-sink systems are plumbed into the cold feed and may use a carbon block, several stages in series, or reverse osmosis, which forces water through a very fine membrane.

Each approach trades convenience, installation effort and running cost differently. None of them is universally correct.

What decides whether it fits

The thread at the end of your spout. If the small insert at the tip unscrews, there is usually a standard thread underneath that an adapter can match.

The shape of the spout. Round ends generally work; square or flat-faced ends generally do not.

The type of tap. Pull-out spray taps and boiling-water taps are out of scope entirely.

What maintenance costs

The long-run cost of any filter is the cartridge, not the unit. Multiply the cartridge price by the number of replacements the manufacturer expects in a year, and compare that figure across products.

Seals are typically the first component to wear. Whether they can be bought on their own is worth checking before you buy anything.

There is none to report yet, and we will not fill this section with estimates. We have no manufactured product, no independent test results and no certifications.

When testing on the product we actually supply is complete, results will be published here with the method behind them. Until then, treat everything we say about our own system as a development objective.
