Compare
How to compare filtration options properly
We have one system in development, so there is nothing here to sell you and no product league table. What follows is the framework we would use ourselves when comparing approaches to filtering drinking water at home.
The three common approaches
General information about the category. These rows describe how each approach typically works, not the performance of any specific product.
| Factor | Jug filter | Tap-mounted | Under-sink |
|---|---|---|---|
| Installation | None — fill and pour | Attaches to the tap, usually tool-free | Plumbed into the cold feed |
| Tap compatibility | Not applicable | Depends entirely on thread and spout shape | Needs cupboard space and plumbing access |
| Maintenance | Frequent cartridge changes; jug needs refilling | Cartridge changes; seals wear over time | Less frequent cartridge changes, more involved |
| Replacement parts | Cartridge only | Cartridge, adapters, seals — if sold separately | Cartridge, housing, sometimes a separate tap |
| Space required | Fridge or worktop space | None beyond the tap itself | Cupboard space required |
| Convenience | Wait while water passes through | Filtered water at the tap, often at reduced flow | Normal flow, nothing visible |
| Filtration technology | Usually activated carbon, sometimes ion exchange | Commonly activated carbon | Carbon block, multi-stage or reverse osmosis |
| Ongoing cost | Low unit cost, recurring cartridges | Recurring cartridges; adapters occasionally | Higher upfront, plus installation |
Where EcoVeya stands today
Development objectives, and the gaps we will not fill with guesses
Anything marked “To be confirmed following product development/testing” is genuinely unknown to us right now. When testing on the manufactured product is complete, these rows will be filled in with the evidence behind them.
Start with the question that decides it
For tap-mounted filtration, fit comes before every other comparison. If it cannot attach to your tap, nothing else on this page matters.
Where this tool is going
As the product and its adapter set are finalised, we intend to extend this checker with:
- Thread measurement input (internal and external diameter)
- Adapter identification from the measured thread
- Recommended adapter for the answers given
- A saved compatibility result you can refer back to
- Step-by-step installation guidance for the identified fitting
